The 92nd-minute incident, which saw the pair grapple, go to ground and both receive bookings, capped a bad-tempered match that had already seen a bust-up between players and staff near the tunnel at half-time, with Rúben Dias appearing to place a hand on Porto head coach Francesco Farioli. Uefa is expected to review the referee's match report before deciding whether to take any disciplinary action.

Haaland, who scored both City goals including a 47th-minute header, said he had been practising headers in the garden with his father, former City player Alf Inge Haaland, and credited experience for the improvement. Tension had also flared earlier in the game after a clash between Marc Guéhi and Gabriel Veiga left the Porto midfielder with a head injury. The 26-year-old forward, who was denied a hat-trick, also said he agreed with manager Enzo Maresca that he may soon need a rest given City's congested fixture schedule.
