Rome-based sales company True Colours has boarded Italian director Ginevra Elkann's new feature "The Roses of Marrakesh" ("Le Rose di Marrakech"), starring Fanny Ardant, and will launch international sales on the title in Toronto. The deal is notable both for Elkann's growing profile as a filmmaker — she is a granddaughter of former Fiat chief Gianni Agnelli and a London Film School graduate who trained under Bernardo Bertolucci and Anthony Minghella — and for the film's setting at the real-life Agnelli family estate in Marrakech, Aïn Kassimou.

The completed film, Elkann's third feature after "Magari" (2019) and "I Told You So" (2023), casts Ardant as Madame Isabelle, an elderly matron whose housekeeper Leila maintains order at the estate alongside a quiet friendship with head gardener Yusef, until Leila's sister arrives with a secret that unsettles the household. Nisrin Erradi, Ahmed Hammoud, Jalila Talemsi and Boubker Fahmi also star, with Lucky Red handling Italian distribution. Elkann described the film as "a small story" about love and enduring pain, while True Colours managing director Elliot Gustin-Hollman called it a poetic story of friendship well-suited to current audience tastes.
