Chernin Entertainment, the independent film and TV production company founded by Peter Chernin, has strengthened its in-house film division with a new hire and three internal promotions. The moves, made under film chief David Ready, come as the unit looks to build on recent successes including the theatrical release "Backrooms" and Netflix's "The Last House", and follow a new first-look feature deal with Apple Studios as well as Mediawan's agreement to acquire Chernin's parent company, The North Road Company.

Marisa Paiva joins as executive vice president of film after roles at Fox 2000 and 3000 Pictures, where she worked on titles such as "Life of Pi" and "Hidden Figures". Brady Fujikawa has been promoted to EVP after joining from Lionsgate, overseeing projects including "High Side" with Timothée Chalamet. Samantha Nisenboim becomes senior vice president of film, producing the Netflix thriller "The Big Fix", while Max Gains, formerly of 21 Laps, is promoted to creative executive.
