Alanis Morissette Says She’s Teaming Up With Martin Short & Toasting ‘To an Empathic Christmas Time’ on First Holiday Album

Alanis Morissette has revealed she's teaming up with comedian and actor Martin Short for a track on her debut holiday album, a pairing she described as unexpected but joyful. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, the singer said the pair will perform a cover of a Judy Garland classic, forming part of a broader project she called a "labor of Christmas love." The announcement matters as it marks Morissette's first full-length festive record, expanding a personal tradition into a wider release, and comes alongside news of a new Los Angeles stage residency.

The album grew out of Morissette's habit of recording one Christmas song each year, which eventually amounted to enough material for a full collection; alongside covers such as "What Child Is This" and "Little Drummer Boy", it will include new originals including "To an Empathic Christmas Time" and "Christmas on the Dance Floor". She linked her growing love of the season to the birth of her son Ever on Christmas Day. Morissette also discussed her upcoming Los Angeles residency, Butterfly With a Machete, launching in November, which will combine music, comedy, dance and storytelling touching on themes such as menopause, ageing and rejecting expectations placed on women.

  • Alanis Morissette and Martin Short will duet on a Judy Garland cover.
  • It features on her first holiday album, out this Christmas season.
  • She's also launching an LA residency, Butterfly With a Machete, in November.
