Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has said he doesn't mind whether he sticks around to watch his old band perform at next week's Louder Than Life festival, where his current outfit Metal Church and Megadeth are both playing the main stage on 17 September, roughly five hours apart. Speaking to Detroit radio station WRIF, Ellefson said he no longer feels attached to Megadeth, having left the band five years ago and since built a new "tribe" through projects such as Kings of Thrash and Ellefson-Soto.

Ellefson said the current Megadeth line-up is "not my Megadeth" and belongs to founder Dave Mustaine, adding that he wishes the band well without feeling any need to watch them play. He also reflected on his role as a co-founder of Megadeth alongside early guitarist Greg Handevidt, noting he can appreciate both his past and present musical projects simultaneously. The interview echoed comments he made in July on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk", where he said he has never ruled out taking part in Megadeth's ongoing farewell tour alongside other former members such as guitarist Marty Friedman.
