Sony Cancels Physint Development, Xbox Picks Up Project

Push Square · 3 hours ago

Sony has confirmed it is stepping away from Physint, the Metal Gear Solid-style project developed by Hideo Kojima's Kojima Productions, with the game now moving to Xbox as its publisher. The switch is significant because Physint was originally announced as a major PlayStation exclusive with full backing from Sony, and its departure marks another blow to Sony's single-player line-up amid ongoing fan frustration over the company's recent live-service cancellations.

While Sony framed the split diplomatically, saying only that it made "the difficult decision to step away", Kojima was more direct, revealing that PlayStation Studios unexpectedly cancelled the project outright in mid-June, prompting a three-month search for a new partner. Kojima Productions is already working with Xbox Game Studios on the horror title OD, and says it shares a "common vision" with Xbox going forward. The move likely means a very different final product than originally envisioned, given Physint had reportedly involved Sony Pictures' production facilities, cast members including Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe, and advanced facial-capture work via 3Lateral, none of which will now proceed under PlayStation.
