“Everyone wants immediate gratification” – Project Zeta studio on making a new action-focused MOBA without all the fluff
Korean studio Nirvanana, working with publisher Krafton, has unveiled Project Zeta at Gamescom, a MOBA designed to strip away the genre's traditional downtime in favour of near-constant combat. CEO Namseok Kim says the aim is to modernise MOBAs for an audience conditioned to expect "immediate gratification," addressing long-standing frustrations such as extended laning phases and passive farming that leave players waiting for the action to start elsewhere on the map.
Rather than the usual lane-based arena, four teams of four are dropped into a single maze-like map filled with NPC enemies, where players fight for experience and for "prisms" dropped by bosses, which must be secured and later banked at a central point to win. In the demo Kim showed, team fights broke out roughly every 30 seconds during 12-minute matches, with intensity escalating in phases and mechanics such as instant ally revivals and cooldown resets after a wipe designed to keep combat flowing and reduce the sting of being "third-partied" by an opportunistic rival squad.
