A 49-year-old man has been seriously injured after being hit by a lorry on Sheffield Parkway, prompting South Yorkshire Police to appeal for witnesses. The collision closed the road for several hours and required an air ambulance response, underlining the severity of the incident on a major route out of the city centre.

Police were called at 10.08pm on Wednesday 9 September after reports of a collision between a Scania lorry and a pedestrian on Sheffield Parkway heading away from the city centre. The injured man was taken to hospital, where he remains, while the lorry driver stayed at the scene and is helping officers with their enquiries.
