Director Mike P. Nelson has made Beware Boiúna, a giant-snake survival horror film he hopes will finally give the shallow genre some credibility, following his 2025 film Silent Night, Deadly Night. Set in the Peruvian rainforest but shot mainly in Colombia's Amazon jungle, the film follows a mythological, truck-sized serpent that violently punishes anyone threatening its ecosystem. Nelson insisted on filming on location rather than accepting a studio proposal to shoot elsewhere more cheaply, and the production's conservation-themed plot reportedly helped win the trust of local elders, who granted access to otherwise off-limits areas of the jungle.

The film stars Jessica Rothe and Logan Marshall-Green and was written by Spawn screenwriter Alan B. McElroy. Nelson said the Amazon proved more manageable to film in than expected, though the crew faced genuine dangers, including a tarantula bite and a close encounter with a venomous Brazilian wandering spider. A dedicated snake wrangler, credited as the shoot's "MVP", scouted ahead of the crew for hazardous wildlife throughout filming.
