Black Mirror executive producer Jessica Rhoades has confirmed that filming on the anthology series' eighth season is currently underway, offering a rare piece of concrete news about a project Netflix has otherwise kept tightly under wraps. The update came during the Toronto International Film Festival, where Rhoades was promoting Netflix's new series Below, and it matters because fans have had little to go on beyond creator Charlie Brooker's promise that the new season will be "more Black Mirror than ever."

Rhoades declined to discuss any specifics about the season's tone or content, but said she would return directly to the production after leaving Toronto, indicating shooting is still active despite Netflix previously stating the series began production over the summer. She was joined at the festival by Black Mirror alumni Josh Hartnett and Mackenzie Davis, who both appear in Below alongside Charlie Heaton; when asked about Heaton potentially joining Black Mirror too, Rhoades was noncommittal, though nothing was confirmed. Netflix has yet to release any cast, episode titles, plot details or a premiere date for Season 8, while all seven existing seasons remain available to stream, and Below itself premieres on 8 October.
