The University of Sheffield has risen to 15th place among UK universities in the Guardian University Guide 2027, which assessed 123 institutions. The result marks a notable improvement for the university and reflects strongly on the quality of its teaching, according to Vice-Chancellor Professor Koen Lamberts, coming amid a run of positive results in various national and international league tables this year.

Sheffield secured top-10 UK positions in 14 subject areas, topping the table for journalism and taking second place in construction and surveying, aerospace engineering, architecture, general engineering, and mechanical engineering. Other strong subject rankings included civil and chemical engineering (both 5th), education (6th), dentistry, geography and zoology (all 8th), and music and earth and marine sciences (both 10th). The result builds on other recent successes, including a 10-place climb to 82nd globally (and 14th in the UK) in the QS World University Rankings 2027, recognition among the world's top 50 most international universities by Times Higher Education, and 13th place in the Complete University Guide 2027.
