Jon Bernthal is enjoying a career-high 2025-26, and one of his earlier, less-heralded roles has now become a surprise hit for streaming audiences. His 2025 spy thriller The Amateur, in which he plays CIA operative Jackson O'Brien alongside lead Rami Malek, has climbed into the ten most-watched films on Prime Video in the United States, despite receiving comparatively little attention on its original release.

The Amateur, directed by James Hawes, also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Laurence Fishburne, Caitríona Balfe and Michael Stuhlbarg. Its renewed popularity comes as Bernthal has become one of the most in-demand actors of the year, having featured in Netflix's His & Hers (which drew over 100 million views), a prequel episode of The Bear, Marvel's The Punisher: One Last Kill, and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon.
