Vivienne Medrano reveals her plan for Helluva Boss / Hazbin Hotel crossovers
Vivienne Medrano, creator of Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel, has revealed her plans for crossovers between the two adult animated musical series ahead of the release of Helluva Boss's third season on Prime Video. Speaking to Polygon, Medrano said the first half of the season, launching on 14 October, would feature only visual nods to Hazbin Hotel, with more substantial crossover content saved for the second half of season three, expected in 2027. This matters because it marks the first time the two shows, which share a universe, will formally connect beyond that shared setting, following Amazon's April 2025 announcement bringing both series to Prime Video.
Medrano explained that the first part of season three was written before the Amazon deal was finalised, limiting crossover opportunities to visual glimpses of Hazbin characters, whereas the later episodes, written after the deal, will include a bigger, though still undisclosed, character appearance beyond a simple cameo. She said she ultimately hopes for a "bigger, full-on, focused crossover" between the shows in future. Season three will run to 15 episodes, split into two parts so the content could reach audiences sooner; Medrano said the first part's finale, though not originally written as one, was adjusted to feel more conclusive while still leaving the story open, describing it as a "midpoint" rather than a cliffhanger.

Vivienne Medrano is the creator and showrunner behind two linked adult animated musical series: Hazbin Hotel, set in Hell and centred on a hotel offering redemption to demons, and Helluva Boss, a spin-off following an imp-run assassination business in the same afterlife setting. The two shows share a universe and some background lore but have largely told separate stories, with occasional small references to one another.
Both series moved to Amazon's Prime Video after a deal announced in April 2025, bringing them under one streaming home for the first time. Medrano has now discussed how this affects Helluva Boss's upcoming third season, which is being released in two parts, with the first arriving on 14 October and running to 15 episodes overall.
This background matters because fans have long wondered whether the shared universe would ever translate into direct crossovers between characters from each show. Medrano's comments set expectations for how and when that might happen, distinguishing between minor visual references and a more substantial crossover appearance planned for later episodes.
