Inzoi is turning life sims into RPGs by focusing on single characters rather than a whole cast
Inzoi, the life simulation game seen as a rival to The Sims, is developing a new mode that reworks the genre around a single character rather than a whole household. Game director Hyungjin Kim announced the mode, called Canvastown, which shifts the experience towards RPG-style role-play, letting players focus on one custom "Zoi" instead of managing a family or large group as in traditional life sims.
In Canvastown, players will connect to an online server holding up to 50 people, entering pre-made scenarios via a system called "AR Company" to take on a set role and interact with others in a shared space. Players will reportedly also be able to customise NPCs and craft their own scenarios, with Kim framing the appeal as coexisting in a shared world rather than "clearing" a game. Kim has cautioned that the mode is still early in development and somewhat rough, having been built by a small internal team, so its future direction remains uncertain.
