Lana Del Rey has long woven cinematic references into her music, from film-inspired lyrics to soundtrack contributions such as "Young and Beautiful" for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, yet she has never taken on a feature film role and seems unlikely to. Despite apparent opportunities, including reported interest from Priscilla Presley for her to portray her on screen, the singer has consistently held back from committing to acting, preferring to keep her cinematic sensibility confined to her songs and short-form visual projects.

The clearest example came when former friend James Franco invited her to appear in three films by a Spanish director, one reportedly involving a Sharon Tate role, but Del Rey admitted to Billboard she was "hesitant," and Franco appeared to back away once he sensed her reluctance. She had experimented with acting via the low-budget short Poolside in 2010 and her own short film Tropico, and said in a 2015 interview she remained "open" to acting, but with three albums still pending, a major screen role looks far from her priorities.
