Nearly the entire original cast of the 1988 Western "Young Guns" reunited at a Fan Expo event in Dallas over the weekend, marking a rare gathering for a group whose members largely went on to individual A-list careers. Lou Diamond Phillips shared a photo with castmates Casey Siemaszko, Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen and Dermot Mulroney, captioning it "F'ing Epic!", while Mulroney posted a further image including Terry O'Quinn, later known for playing John Locke in "Lost". The event underscores lasting fan affection for the film and comes amid renewed, if uncertain, interest in extending the franchise.

That interest centres on "Young Guns 3: Dead or Alive", which Estevez announced in January 2025 alongside New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, with plans to direct and shoot in the state where the original films were made. The project, listed as in pre-production with Diamond Phillips and Christian Slater attached to star, Estevez and John Fusco credited as writers, and original producer Morgan Creek involved, has seen little movement since. At the Dallas event, Estevez, now in his sixties, joked that the long-delayed project had been nicknamed "Old Guns".
