Country singer Alexandra Kay has spoken candidly about her disappointment at being overlooked in this year's CMA Awards nominations, admitting the snub left her "questioning everything." The nominations, dominated by female artists such as Ella Langley (nine nods), Miranda Lambert (seven) and Kacey Musgraves (five), came shortly after Kay learned that radio promotion for her single "Straight for the Heart" was being dropped, compounding a difficult few weeks for the artist.

Kay, who has spent more than a decade in country music and released her latest album Second Wind in 2025, said she qualified for Best New Artist after "Straight for the Heart" reached No. 26 on the US Country Airplay chart in her first year taking a song to country radio. Despite not expecting a nomination, she described feeling devastated, doubting herself and feeling "insignificant" after being passed over. However, she said the setback had spurred her creatively, insisting she is writing some of her best material yet and vowing to return next year determined to earn recognition.
