Netflix has struck a new deal with Sega to produce a slate of film and television adaptations based on the company's video game franchises. The projects include a live-action comedy film based on the taxi-driving game Crazy Taxi and a live-action crime film adapted from Stranger Than Heaven, the forthcoming title from Yakuza/Like a Dragon developer RGG Studio, marking a significant expansion of Netflix's growing catalogue of video game adaptations.

The Crazy Taxi script is being written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for last year's Naked Gun reboot, and the film is expected to follow the release of the next game, Crazy Taxi World Tour, due in 2027. Stranger Than Heaven itself launches on PC and consoles on 15 January. Netflix is also developing a new Sonic animated series aimed at pre-schoolers, following on from Sonic Prime, adding to an already extensive slate of gaming adaptations that includes a live-action Assassin's Creed series, an Overcooked cooking competition show, an upcoming Diablo animated series with Blizzard, and a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners due next month.
