An "aggressive" London Underground passenger allegedly killed an Elizabeth Line worker with a single punch after missing his train, a court has heard. Ayodele Jamgbadi, 29, of Ilford, is accused of murdering Jorge Ortega, 61, described as an "adored" father, after the customer experience assistant and colleagues tried to calm him down when he began kicking an advertising frame at Ilford station.

Inner London Crown Court heard that on 4 December 2024, Jamgbadi missed his 8.45pm train to Stratford and became agitated, prompting Ortega and two Transport for London colleagues to intervene. As Ortega backed away, Jamgbadi punched him once in the face with "significant force," knocking him unconscious as he fell and struck his head on the platform; Ortega died in hospital two days later from a severe traumatic brain injury. The charge was upgraded from grievous bodily harm to murder following his death, and the court was told Jamgbadi has been ruled unfit to plead, meaning the jury must decide only whether he committed the act and whether it caused Ortega's death.
