A five-year-old boy died after being left in a hot car outside his family's home in Peoria, Arizona, while his parents hosted a party following a church baptism. Anca Sabo, 45, and Mihail Sabo, 50, have been charged with negligent homicide and child abuse over the death of their son, Theo, with temperatures reaching 105°F (around 40°C) at the time. The case has drawn attention after Mihail claimed he had asked the couple's 14-year-old son to bring Theo inside, a request the teenager says he does not recall receiving.

The family returned from the baptism of another child around 1pm on Sunday but did not realise Theo was missing from the car until 3.45pm. He was given CPR by relatives before being taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead; the cause of death has not yet been released. At a court hearing, the parents' lawyer argued the charges were unwarranted given the couple's cooperation with police, while Anca pleaded to see her other children. Both parents were released on $150,000 bond each, barred from contacting one another but permitted supervised visits with their remaining children, with further hearings scheduled for 21 and 23 September. A GoFundMe for the family has raised more than $223,000.
