Judy began the process after responding to an Instagram advert offering $120,000 (roughly £95,000) to become a surrogate, seeing it as a chance to support herself and her seven-year-old daughter. Xu, 48, who made his fortune through fantasy video games and was estimated by Forbes to be worth $1.1 billion in 2019, has previously acknowledged fathering "a little over 100" children but disputes claims by his former partner, Tang Jing, that the true figure is closer to 300. A Wall Street Journal investigation found Xu told a California judge he hoped to father 20 or more US-born sons to eventually run his business, though the judge rejected his bid for parental rights; his company, Duoyi Network, says he has custody of 12 children born via US surrogacy, with many reportedly living in an Irvine, California home cared for by nannies.
