California woman discovers she’s the surrogate for Chinese billionaire who allegedly has 300 kids already

Daily Mail · 22 hours ago

A California woman known only as "Judy" has discovered that the baby she is carrying as a surrogate belongs to Chinese gaming billionaire Xu Bo, who has been accused of fathering as many as 300 children through surrogacy arrangements in the United States. Judy said she only learned the identity of the intended father after CBS News examined leaked documents linking her pregnancy to Xu, having originally been told by her agency only that he was a single father seeking to expand his family. The case highlights growing scrutiny of wealthy Chinese men using American surrogates to build large "family dynasties", raising concerns about transparency in the surrogacy industry.

Judy began the process after responding to an Instagram advert offering $120,000 (roughly £95,000) to become a surrogate, seeing it as a chance to support herself and her seven-year-old daughter. Xu, 48, who made his fortune through fantasy video games and was estimated by Forbes to be worth $1.1 billion in 2019, has previously acknowledged fathering "a little over 100" children but disputes claims by his former partner, Tang Jing, that the true figure is closer to 300. A Wall Street Journal investigation found Xu told a California judge he hoped to father 20 or more US-born sons to eventually run his business, though the judge rejected his bid for parental rights; his company, Duoyi Network, says he has custody of 12 children born via US surrogacy, with many reportedly living in an Irvine, California home cared for by nannies.
