The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) has accused the NHS of harbouring an "anti-Semitic rot" after collecting testimony from Jewish staff and patients who described abuse while working or being treated in British hospitals. The allegations, including a Nazi salute performed by a colleague and a surgeon making offensive remarks about Jewish people during an operation, have prompted concern that the NHS is failing to protect Jewish people from discrimination at a time when they are most vulnerable.

In a CAA documentary titled *Malignant: Anti-Semitism in the NHS*, nurse Shelly Lipman said a colleague gave a Nazi salute after she explained a Hebrew tattoo, while patient Saul Freeman claimed his surgeon told him mid-procedure that Jews "shoot children in the head or the legs for fun". A CAA poll found nearly half of British Jews surveyed had hidden their Jewish identity since the 7 October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel for fear of unequal treatment. Other Jewish medical staff reported death threats, being interrogated over wearing Star of David necklaces, and some quitting the NHS for private practice, which they felt was safer. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said it was investigating Mr Freeman's complaint "as a matter of urgency".
