Car influencer James Wehr, 27, died alongside 22-year-old Hooters calendar model Alexis "Lexi" Kramer when his 2019 McLaren supercar struck a tree and split in two before catching fire in Irvine, California, in the early hours of Saturday. Police believe speed was a factor in the crash, which occurred shortly after Wehr had been stopped and warned by nearby Newport Beach officers while driving the same car with Kramer as his passenger.

Investigators told local media the McLaren sped off along Culver Drive at around 12.20am before losing control, hitting a kerb and then a tree, causing the vehicle to split apart and burst into flames, killing both occupants instantly. Kramer, a bartender and 2026 Hooters calendar girl from Florida, had met Wehr through Instagram and flown out to California just two days earlier; her family said Wehr had told her he was divorcing his wife, Emma, who has since paid an emotional tribute to him online. The pair had reportedly dined together and visited a hotel bar before attending Wehr's car show earlier that day, hours ahead of the fatal crash.
