An elderly couple in Duston, Northamptonshire, were threatened with a knife and spat on by a man they had earlier caught fly-tipping outside their home. Jamie Allen, 29, returned to their property days after the initial confrontation, tore off their doorbell camera and poured alcohol over it, then pulled a knife when the pensioners challenged him, warning he would "put this straight in your front" and later in the woman's knee. The couple stood their ground throughout the ordeal, which was captured on the doorbell footage, before Allen spat in the woman's face and left.

Allen, who was already wanted by Northamptonshire Police over controlling and coercive behaviour towards his ex-partner, was charged with two counts of threats to kill, assault by beating, possessing a knife blade in public, criminal damage and coercive control. He admitted five of the six charges and was jailed for three-and-a-half years at Northampton Crown Court on 4 September, alongside an indefinite restraining order protecting the elderly couple and a five-year order protecting his ex-partner. Detective Constable Rachael McDaid praised the bravery of both the couple and his ex-partner in coming forward.
