Activision is discontinuing Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One following the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 season 1, which begins shortly after the game's release on 23 October. This move reflects the company's shift towards supporting only current-generation platforms, as Modern Warfare 4 itself will not be available on last-generation consoles. The decision leaves PS4 and Xbox One players without access to Warzone, though the game will remain playable on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

Players on legacy platforms already cannot download Warzone, though those with existing installations can continue playing until season 1 of Modern Warfare 4 launches. The in-game store for these platforms will be removed in June, but players retain the ability to earn free Battle Pass rewards and unlock weapons through the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons. From season 1 onwards, Warzone on current-generation platforms will integrate Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression as a connected experience between both titles. This represents the latest evolution of Warzone since its launch in 2020, following its 2023 transition from the original game to Warzone 2.0.
