Review: Silent Hill: Townfall (PS5) – Dated Bite-Sized Horror… in a Good Way

Push Square · 44 minutes ago

Silent Hill: Townfall is a roughly 10-hour first-person survival horror game set in a fog-shrouded 1990s Scottish fishing village. It returns to the series’ familiar mix of exploration, puzzles, combat and psychological horror, while introducing a distinctive setting and perspective that give the experience its own identity.

Players guide Simon Ordell through locations including the beachfront, a housing estate and residents’ homes, using a handheld CRTV to uncover story information, enemy positions and puzzle clues. The detailed Scottish atmosphere, lived-in interiors and period technology such as floppy disks, printers and electricity top-up cards are particular strengths, although the game’s most distinctive features reportedly become less significant as it progresses.

  • A compact first-person Silent Hill set in 1990s Scotland.
  • Strong atmosphere, period detail and traditional survival horror.
  • Distinctive ideas fade somewhat during the 10-hour campaign.
