Apple has released iOS 27, featuring a comprehensive overhaul of Siri AI—a conversational assistant built in partnership with Google that can access personal data including emails and messages. Whilst this represents the headline feature of the update, users cannot access Siri AI immediately upon updating; instead, they must manually enable it and join a waitlist. Apple has gated the feature this way to manage demand on its cloud infrastructure, which relies on remote servers to process complex tasks alongside on-device processing.

Siri AI is available only on iPhone 15 Pro models or newer, and on select iPad models with A17 Pro or M1 processors and later, with the most advanced features restricted to iPhone 17 Pro or newer. The feature is not accessible in China or European Union countries due to regulatory concerns—the European Commission's Digital Markets Act requires Apple to grant competing AI companies equal access to underlying system data, a requirement Apple has contested on privacy grounds. Support for French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean is scheduled for October 2026. Some users have reported gaining access to the feature within a day of joining the waitlist, though access times will vary as Apple scales its infrastructure.
