Former American Idol contestant and pastor Caleb Flynn is on trial in Ohio for allegedly murdering his wife, Ashley, who was found shot dead at their home on 16 February. Prosecutors say Flynn had sent more than 100,000 messages to a long-term affair partner expressing a desire for Ashley to be killed, while Flynn maintains he is not guilty and claimed an intruder was responsible.

Investigators testified that the scene showed no signs of a struggle, movement of Ashley’s body or burglary, and that blood patterns suggested she had been asleep or lying still when shot. Flynn faces charges including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence; his two daughters were reportedly inside the house, and Ashley’s family has expressed confidence in the authorities’ handling of the case.
