Ethan Loveridge, aged 20, has been sentenced to five years in prison after causing a serious head-on collision with Martin Howells in August 2024. Loveridge lost control of his Kia Sorento on the A468 in Caerphilly after clipping another vehicle, resulting in a catastrophic impact that caused life-altering injuries to Howells and could easily have proven fatal.

Musician Martin Howells, 50, sustained broken ribs, a broken nose, a detached bicep and nerve damage that has permanently prevented him from playing guitar, his passion. He has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and underwent eight months of psychological therapy; additionally, he was unable to fully enjoy his grandson's birth six weeks after the crash due to his injuries. Loveridge initially denied driving the vehicle, falsely claiming someone named 'Owen' was responsible. He was also convicted of drug offences—possession with intent to supply cannabis and involvement in supplying both cocaine and cannabis for six months—and received an additional four-year driving disqualification.
