Should action games let us skip the action?

PC Gamer · 7 hours ago

The Blood of Dawnwalker may introduce a difficulty setting that lets players bypass combat entirely, allowing them to focus on the story. The proposal raises questions about whether action-heavy games should make their central gameplay optional, particularly for players who find combat difficult or are primarily interested in narrative.

Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said an easier mode would be added, while the existing Story mode would become more demanding. PC Gamer notes comparable features in South of Midnight, Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Derelict Star, and says the new mode is expected in an early-October patch; a New Game Plus mode has also been confirmed, without a release date.

  • The Blood of Dawnwalker may allow players to skip combat.
  • A new, easier Story mode is planned for October.
  • Other games already offer combat skips or powerful accessibility options.
