The National Film and Television School has partnered with the Sean Connery Foundation to establish a permanent institute in Edinburgh, opening in 2027. This represents a significant expansion and consolidation of the NFTS's nine-year presence in Scotland, formalising the school's commitment to nurturing Scottish filmmaking talent and ensuring diverse Scottish voices reach national and international audiences.

The NFTS Sean Connery Institute will house the school's training programmes alongside a public programme of screenings, masterclasses and events. The partnership builds on the success of the Sean Connery Talent Lab, launched in 2023, which has already supported 75 filmmakers through intensive year-long development programmes; the 12 films produced through the Lab to date achieved world premieres at the Edinburgh Film Festival in 2025 and 2026.
