Devin Townsend, a Canadian metal musician in his mid-fifties, is touring Europe to promote his latest album The Moth, an orchestral-metal work that emerged from a period of significant personal difficulty. The creation of this album coincided with a mental health crisis a couple of years ago, marking a pivotal moment in both his personal and artistic life.

After experiencing a breakdown, Townsend has restructured his life considerably, now living off-grid in a small cabin and working as a gardener to pay his rent whilst maintaining a recording studio for his music. The Moth project was realised following a chance meeting with Marcel Mandos, the head of the North Netherlands' Orchestra and Choir, who prompted Townsend to compose new orchestral-metal material on a tight deadline rather than rework existing songs.
