A 15-year-old boy has been detained after at least 11 people were injured in a shooting outside a vocational high school in Manisa, western Turkey. Two of the injured people are in critical condition, while the alleged attacker reportedly fled before being captured; the motive remains unknown. The incident matters because it is Turkey’s third school shooting this year, intensifying concern over a recent rise in violence.

The suspect is reportedly a student at Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, and his parents and grandfather have also been detained. CCTV footage appears to show him carrying a shotgun before and after the attack. The shooting follows two deadly school attacks in April, which prompted tighter gun controls and additional security measures for the 2026–27 academic year.
