Josh Hartnett has confirmed that Netflix’s new mystery thriller Below aims to offer something markedly different from conventional television. Set in a coastal Newfoundland village, the series follows Calvin Penney as family tensions and a divisive government vote coincide with missing tourists and signs of a monstrous presence beneath the sea.

Created by Jesse McKeown, Below stars Hartnett alongside Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Ruby Stokes and Rohan Campbell. Executive producer Jessica Rhoades praised the series’ grounded characters and distinctive setting, saying this realism makes its supernatural elements more compelling. The series premieres on Netflix on 8 October.
