Technology journalist Kara Swisher has announced her departure from CNN following a legal settlement that clears the way for Paramount to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, the network's parent company. Speaking on her Pivot podcast, Swisher stated she has asked her agent to exit her contract early rather than wait until its December 31 expiration, saying she does not wish to work under the new ownership led by David Ellison.

Swisher has been a CNN contributor since 2023 and presented an original series this year. The California Attorney General's settlement announced on Monday includes provisions for an independent editorial board to oversee journalistic standards, though Swisher dismissed this safeguard as ineffective, comparing it to an oversight board created when Rupert Murdoch acquired The Wall Street Journal in 2007. She has been critical of Ellison and his father Larry, calling them "terrible media owners," and cited other professional opportunities that offer higher remuneration and larger audiences as factors in her decision.
