Rosenthal — The Malibu Estate, a four-decade-old winery, is closing after the 2025 Palisades wildfire destroyed its Pacific Coast Highway tasting room. The tasting room was the winery's primary distribution channel, and with California authorities yet to indicate whether commercial tenants will be allowed to return to the state-leased site, continuing operations without it has become economically unviable. The closure marks another disaster for the family-run operation.

Founded in 1985 by George Rosenthal (now 95), the winery produced its first vintage in 1991 from a 240-acre Newton Canyon property and became known for cabernet sauvignon, merlot and chardonnay. The business has endured multiple catastrophes: a 2012 fire destroyed an earlier tasting room at Beau Rivage restaurant, and the 2017 Woolsey wildfire burned nearly the entire vineyard. Mark Rosenthal, turning 67, cited both declining alcohol consumption among younger generations and the economic unviability of reopening elsewhere as reasons for the closure.
