Outkast has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Georgia against Oakland-based producer Silas Wilson, who performs under the name Ovrkast, alleging trademark infringement, unfair competition and breach of contract. The Grammy-winning hip-hop duo claims Wilson deliberately chose a "nearly identical" stage name to exploit Outkast's fame and goodwill, and that the similarity has already caused consumer confusion. This matters because Outkast is one of hip-hop's most recognisable and influential acts, and the case represents a significant challenge to the band's valuable trademark.

According to the complaint, Outkast and Wilson had reached a settlement agreement in June 2025 in which Wilson agreed to change his stage name to Overkxst by 15 July 2026. However, Wilson allegedly reneged on this binding agreement and has continued using the Ovrkast name across his website, social media, streaming platforms and merchandise. The lawsuit, filed by Outkast's trademark holding company High Schoolers, seeks a permanent court order prohibiting Wilson's use of the Ovrkast name, alongside compensatory and punitive damages, legal fees and the destruction of merchandise bearing the disputed name.
