Keith Richards initially disliked “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and argued that it should not be released as a single. Despite his doubts, the song quickly reached number one and became one of The Rolling Stones’ defining tracks, helping usher in a more confident period of songwriting and production for the band.

Richards reportedly wrote the song in his sleep during the Stones’ 1965 US tour, recording its basic idea on a Philips cassette player. Inspired by events in Clearwater, Florida, where a concert was disrupted by fighting, “Satisfaction” went on to sell approximately five million copies and became a staple of the band’s live performances.
