Over 300 homes in Falmouth, Cornwall have been evacuated following the discovery of a suspected unexploded American Second World War bomb in water near the docks on Monday. The authorities have established a 750-metre cordon and deployed specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to assess the device, prompting a significant emergency response involving police, fire services, the port authority and coastguard.

The suspected 250kg ordnance has disrupted local transport, with train services between Falmouth Town and Falmouth Docks suspended throughout the day and no replacement services available due to the nature of the incident. Across 18 postcodes, residents have been advised to evacuate to designated respite centres, including All Saints Church and local Salvation Army halls, whilst emergency personnel work to safely manage the recovery of the device. Members of the public and boat users have been urged to avoid the area entirely and follow instructions from emergency services.
