Work on a £1.42m road safety scheme on Sheffield’s A625 Ecclesall Road is expected to begin in January 2027. The project matters because the route is among 27 urban roads in the UK with high collision rates and aims to reduce risks for drivers and pedestrians.

The scheme will introduce a 20mph limit between Pear Street and Hunters Bar roundabout, extend the existing 30mph limit to Abbey Lane, and install average-speed cameras and vehicle-activated signs. It will also redesign junctions, improve road markings and crossings, while a separate £5.5m conditional funding offer could support safety improvements on the A61 Chesterfield Road.
