Terence Winter is developing a television series based on former US intelligence official Jay Stratton’s memoir, Out of the Shadows, about the government’s investigation into unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) and alleged non-human intelligent life. The project aims to combine espionage and political-thriller elements with the personal impact Stratton says the classified work had on him and his family.

Stratton led work on emerging aerospace technologies as Chief of Air & Space Warfare in the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Defense Warning Office before focusing on UAP investigations. The memoir will be published in the US by William Morrow on 13 October, while producer Dan Farah holds its film and television rights; Winter will executive produce through Cold Front Productions.
