Hugh Laurie is to star in The Wanted Man, a new Apple TV crime thriller premiering on 6 January 2027. The eight-episode series, created by George Kay (who made Hijack), sees Laurie playing organised crime boss Felix Carmichael, who is betrayed by someone within his own firm and imprisoned at Staplehurst Prison. With his family, business and fortune at stake, he attempts a daring escape, combining elements reminiscent of The Night Manager and Prison Break.

The cast includes Thandiwe Newton, Fionn Whitehead, Gina McKee, Hazel Doupe, Elliott Heffernan and Stephen Dillane. The show launches with two episodes before moving to a weekly Wednesday release schedule, concluding on 17 February. Emmy-nominated director Jakob Verbruggen, known for The Fall and London Spy, helms the series, with inaugural images showing Laurie's character in varying states of distress whilst imprisoned and other cast members active outside the prison walls.
