Widow condemns safety failures after falling window killed father-of-two
Coach driver Mick Ferris, 53, was killed in October 2018 when a window fell 26 storeys from The Corniche luxury flats in Vauxhall and struck him as he returned to his coach. His widow said his death was sudden, preventable and resulted from the companies’ failure to address known safety risks.
The court heard the outward-opening window was held by a single metal restrictor that could be dislodged by wind, despite a similar panel falling from the development the previous year. Developer St James Group was fined £1 million and façade contractor Lindner Prater £300,000, with each ordered to pay £125,000 in costs; Foster + Partners and Wintech were cleared.
