A woman who appeared in footage filmed during President John F. Kennedy's assassination motorcade in Dallas on 22 November 1963 has been identified after 62 years. Joan Jackson, now 94, was photographed and filmed wearing a headscarf and holding a young boy, but remained unknown until her daughter recognised her and contacted the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. The identification is significant as it connects living memory to this pivotal historical moment and helps museums preserve tangible links to the assassination.

Jackson was completely unaware she had been filmed at the time, and she remains sharp at her age with vivid memories of the day. She watched from the crowd as the presidential motorcade passed, with the protective bubble on the Kennedys' car initially in place before being removed, allowing her to see the President and First Lady clearly. Her headscarf will now be displayed at the museum, whilst her recollections will be preserved on the museum's YouTube channel to connect younger generations to this historic event.
