Peter Rosenberg criticised Ye for interrupting a Chicago ceremony honouring his late mother, Donda West, by insisting that he unveil the renamed street sign himself. Rosenberg called the behaviour “weird”, while acknowledging that Donda was deserving of the tribute.

The ceremony took place on East 78th Street, near where Ye grew up, which was renamed Dr Donda West Way. Donda West, who died in 2007 aged 58, was a respected educator and Chicago State University professor; the event also featured appearances by Don C, GLC, Rhymefest and Really Doe, although Ye did not speak.
