China is rapidly advancing EV charging technology, widening the gap with the US and making American charging infrastructure appear outdated. Geely’s latest LFP battery can charge from 10 to 70% in 4.5 minutes at up to 2.2 MW, potentially bringing EV refuelling times closer to those of petrol cars.

Geely says the battery reaches 10–98% in 8 minutes 40 seconds, uses AI-controlled thermal management and could gain 20% longer life through pulsed charging. Its figures surpass BYD’s latest battery, although CATL remains ahead, while most US passenger-car chargers deliver only 250–600 kW and megawatt charging is largely limited to heavy-duty vehicles.
