Yorkshire secured a dramatic one-wicket victory over Nottinghamshire to end their County Championship season with a third consecutive win. On his 37th birthday, captain Jonny Bairstow hit the decisive six off Mohammad Ali to seal the spoils, with Yorkshire recovering from a perilous position where seven wickets had fallen for just 61 runs whilst chasing 158. The victory was all the more impressive given that Nottinghamshire had looked well-positioned overnight with seven wickets remaining and a 127-run lead.

Nottinghamshire's chances evaporated when they collapsed dramatically in their second innings, losing seven wickets for 30 runs in 17.1 overs to be dismissed for 85. Jack White took a season's best 5-23 and Ben Coad claimed 4-27 to orchestrate the destruction in under 90 minutes. Will Luxton contributed 53 in Yorkshire's chase while Bairstow finished unbeaten on 38, showing the mental resilience required to turn the match around after Pakistan seamer Mohammad Ali had brought Nottinghamshire agonisingly close at 159-9. Nottinghamshire, who had been title favourites in August, finished fourth following successive defeats, whilst Yorkshire ended the season in fifth.
