Mike Leigh’s *Tender Loving Care* dominated San Sebastián’s main competition, winning the Golden Shell for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Lead Performance for Kate O’Flynn. The result is notable given reports that the film was rejected for competition at Venice, and may mark the acclaimed British director’s final film.

The jury also honoured Asta Kamma August for *Growth of the Soil*, shared the lead-performance prize with O’Flynn, while Amanda Kernell won Best Director for *Brace Your Heart* and Ah Biao’s *Border* received the Special Jury Prize. Audience awards went to Spanish queer epic *La Bola Negra*, which also won at Toronto, and the documentary *NAZA*, while several high-profile films left without prizes.
