Wigan Warriors’ hopes of a third trophy in 2026 ended with a 33-6 Super League play-off semi-final defeat by Wakefield Trinity. Head coach Matt Peet said Wakefield were “far too good”, but remained proud of a side that had already won the Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield.

Wigan led through Brad O’Neill’s converted try, before Wakefield scored 33 unanswered points to secure their first-ever Grand Final appearance. The result ended Wigan’s run of 16 consecutive victories and denied them a fourth successive Grand Final; Wakefield will face Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford on 3 October.
