Colin Sheean, a 41-year-old father-of-two, is in critical condition in hospital after being stabbed twice whilst attempting to stop three teenagers allegedly breaking into a car in south-east Melbourne early on Saturday morning. He has become a symbol of community spirit and selflessness, having intervened to help others despite the grave personal cost. His case has prompted an outpouring of support, particularly given his family's previous tragedy—his wife died from sudden cardiac arrest five years ago, leaving him raising their two daughters alone.

The incident occurred at 12.20am on Govan Street in Langwarrin when Mr Sheean, riding his scooter home, encountered the three teenagers at a vehicle. After being stabbed in the back and chest (with one wound penetrating his lung), he was rushed to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition and placed in an induced coma. A neighbour intervened during the altercation, using a hockey stick to help fend off the attackers. Two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old were subsequently arrested and charged with intentionally causing serious injury. Mr Sheean, who runs his own business, faces an extended period away from work, prompting his family to launch a GoFundMe appeal to manage medical expenses and household costs during his recovery.
